How to crop a PDF
- Drop your PDF. Every page appears with a crop frame.
- Drag the frame or its corner dots. Press "Auto-trim margins" to cut the white space off every page in one click, or type the margins you want in millimetres.
- Tick "Crop each page separately" if the pages need different frames, then click Crop PDF and download.
Questions
Does it crop all pages the same?
By default the same frame is used on every page, measured as a share of each page, so pages of different sizes are cropped in proportion. Tick "Crop each page separately" to give every page its own frame.
What does Auto-trim do?
It looks at each page and finds the area that actually has text or pictures on it, then crops the white space around it. By default one frame that fits all pages is used, so the pages stay the same size; with "Crop each page separately" every page is trimmed on its own.
Is the cropped-off part really removed?
Normally no. Like in most PDF tools, the page is cut down to the frame but the parts outside it stay hidden inside the file. If something private is outside the frame, tick "Remove the cropped-off parts for good": the pages become pictures of the cropped area and the rest is not kept. That also means the text can no longer be selected.
Can I undo a crop later?
Not in the new file if you removed the parts for good. Otherwise the original page size is still stored in the file, so some PDF editors can bring it back. Your original file is never changed, so you can always start again from it.
Can I crop rotated pages?
Yes. The frame is drawn on the page as it looks, and PDFboat works out the right cut for the way the page is rotated.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Everything happens inside your browser tab.
Can I password-protect the result?
Yes. Switch on "Password-protect" and the result is encrypted with AES-256. It is off by default.
